    Christianity is Radical

Profile Picture Leo (2).Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God, our Father, and Jesus Christ. Welcome to my blog! I hope the thoughts you find here will encourage you and inspire you to diligently seek God’s Kingdom. Today, I would like to encourage you from the book of Matthew. We have been looking at the Sermon on the Mount for a few months at IHP. Today, I thought we would look at something our God has inculcated to the disciples and to us as subjects of the Kingdom of Heaven.

We have been looking at the “Kingdom of God/Heaven for the entire year of 2025, and as such, we have learned that the way to be a good subject of the Kingdom is to know what your King demands and obey those commands. In so doing, we are looking at what Christ has to teach us.

The beatitudes are how he begins the sermon, and the beatitudes are radical in how they changed my perspective, even in 2025 as to what being a Christian is. They have changed everything for me. I cannot be passive and be the kind of believer Christ demands because he said:

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

    (Matthew 5:6 NRSV)

The Beatitudes create in me a propensity to become an activist because they do tell me:

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”

    (Matthew 5:9 NRSV)

We have learned that I cannot be a peacemaker with unrighteousness if I understand that I need to be one who hungers and thirsts after righteousness. It means that I cannot follow the solution of staying out of issues that confront or try to lull my community into complacency. I must take a stand, not only in my own life but in the life of those I care about. My family, my church, my community. I am called to activism and to be what God calls me to be. Jesus said:

“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid.”

    (Matthew 5:14 NRSV)

God needs for this world not to operate in darkness. This is why he called you, the believer, to prevent your family, your community, your nation from operating in darkness. Beloved, be assured that this world would rather be in darkness.

“And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.”

    (John 3:19 NRSV)

What radical truths! It means that although men would rather that Christians stay out of politics, determining how resources in communities are disseminated, Christ says we are called to this. We need to speak up and demand righteousness in government, in community, and in our nation. We are not called to complain on the side about how helpless people have made us. We are called to be a solution. Instead of complaining about how schools are teaching your children, you should be a member, even a leader, in the PTA. Why are you not running for the school board. Instead of complaining about ICE, why are you not a federal judge who took your law school experience and fought to protect the community? Why are you not a district attorney or police officer? Complaining about it is not the solution.

Even Christ, the meekest of us all, turned over the tables of the money changers when it was clear that these men were cheating the community. Why have you not done what Christ commands? Whatever this means to you— student government, PTA, city government, county government, police department, military, school board, or even in your church— are you part of your church administration, helping your pastor move your church forward? Christianity is radical. Blessed people are activists. Engage your community and be the light of the world.

  • Live in Expectancy

    Live in Expectancy

Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God, our Father, and Jesus Christ. Welcome to my blog! I hope the thoughts you find here will encourage you and inspire you to diligently seek God’s Kingdom. Today, I would like to encourage you from the book of Matthew. This is part of a blog I wrote in 2009, and it is still relevant today.

Matt. 17:19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? Matt. 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

In this example, Jesus shows us that doubt restricts our ability, not His. The things we set out to do, we need to make sure there is no doubt in us. The things God wants to do in your life, God does not need your approval, approbation, or input. What you decree in God necessitates you to believe and have no doubt. The correlation here is that God can not doubt his own word, that is a human trait. God’s word can not return unto him void. Our word needs belief, lack of doubt and the name of Jesus. God absolutely expects his word to come to pass, it is impossible for it not to. We need to be more like him. Live in expectancy that the word of God will come to pass. That God will do what he said he will do. Remember the word of God.

King James Version: Is. 46:11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.

God has spoken a word into your life, he will bring it to pass. Doubt is not an issue. Live in expectancy of whatever God has spoken into your life. What does that mean? Expect whatever God tells you will happen, to happen. It will. Live like you expect God to come through. He will.

Again, I would like to invite you to subscribe to the blog. I endeavor to post regularly, with an entry every Tuesday. You can subscribe at the bottom of this page.

  • Please God

    Please God

Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God our Father and Jesus Christ. Welcome to my blog! I hope the thoughts you find here will encourage you and inspire you to diligently seek God’s Kingdom. Today, I want to encourage you as we consider seeking the Kingdom of God. Make it a point to “make the most of every opportunity.”

    Ephesians 5:16 (NLT):

Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.

With this imperative in mind, let’s reflect on this text as we pursue our goal. Consider also:

    Ephesians 5:10 (NLT):

Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.

The Apostle Paul teaches us, through his letter to the Ephesians, that we should consider what pleases God as the guiding paradigm for our lives. We are called to search the Scriptures and engage in prayer and fasting to gain clarity on what “pleases God.” The nuance in the NLT version urges us to “carefully determine” what pleases Him. Make it a point to understand fully—leave nothing out, and do not simply trust others, especially if they have no relationship with God.

It is possible that what pleases the Lord in your life may differ from what pleases Him in the life of your brother or sister. Whatever you discover, pursue it diligently. Pleasing God requires faith (Hebrews 11:6). Pleasing God means believing His word and putting it into practice. Remember, faith in God and in His word is not blind faith—God has always been faithful to us, and His word has always proven true. Trust God, believe God, and do what pleases Him. I want to please God—do you?

Remember, your orthopraxy is informed by your orthodoxy. In other words, what you do is shaped by what you believe. You will please God because you believe there is a benefit to doing what God wants and doing it His way. Please God!

Once again, I invite you to subscribe to the blog. I will be posting regularly, with a new entry every Tuesday. You can subscribe at the bottom of this page.

Also, remember to invite someone to church with you this Sunday. I would like to extend a special invitation to join us at In His Presence Family Worship Center.

This Sunday is Resurrection Sunday—arguably the holiest day of the year. Make this your opportunity to connect with God in a real way. Don’t go it alone. Join me at IHP! We meet at 2418 Church Avenue in Brooklyn, NY, at the Goshen Seventh Day Adventist Church. Our service begins at 10 AM. I look forward to seeing you there. Seek God’s Kingdom first.

  • A Shift in Decision Making

Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God our Father and of Jesus Christ. You have made it to day number five (5). Well done! You are almost finished with your journey. We have the privilege of counting down now: “You have one day and a wake-up.” Congratulations! You are on your way to a marvelous 2025. We have been focusing on our foundational verse for the year, Matthew 6:33. Today, I want to explore one of the ways seeking the Kingdom of God impacts our decision-making.

Matthew 6:33: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” KJV

Seeking the Kingdom of God first means just that. Seeking the Kingdom first involves a change in our priorities. A change in our priorities signals that God is inviting us to shift our focus. We no longer rely on our instincts. We no longer prioritize our upbringing over God’s perspective. I have often told someone, “I can’t do that; that’s not how I was raised.” The way I was raised may be special and significant to me, but it cannot take precedence over God’s will for my life. It jeopardizes my purpose in God to use my past as the primary basis for my decision-making.

    Miles Monroe said:

“The greatest mistake in life is to be busy but not effective. Life’s greatest failure is to be successful in the wrong assignment. Success in life is measured by the effective use of one’s time.”1

I want to actively follow what God deems right rather than making my own choices and being ineffective in fulfilling my purpose. Therefore, when we prioritize seeking the Kingdom of God, our decision-making and priorities significantly shift, which will change our lives. Let’s examine three key points.

    When we prioritize God’s Kingdom:

•We concentrate on God’s will and purposes instead of our own desires or worldly concerns.

•Our decisions align with eternal values rather than momentary gratification.
•We reflect on how our choices will glorify God and further His Kingdom rather than just benefit ourselves.

I could write for days on these three points. I won’t take any more of your time, but I will discuss these issues in the coming weeks at In His Presence Family Worship Center. I invite you to be my special guest. Let’s seek the Kingdom of God together. We meet on Sundays at 2418 Church Avenue in Brooklyn, NY. Meet us at 10 AM. We would thrilled to have you as our special guest.

  • You are important to God.

Grace and Peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God our Father and of Jesus Christ. You have made it to day number four (4). Well done. You are more than halfway through your journey. We have the privilege of counting down at this point. Instead of saying we have three days left, our late Archbishop McKinley would say, “You have two days and a wake-up.” Congratulations to you. You are on your way to a marvelous 2025. We have been concentrating on our foundational verse for the Year, Matthew 6:33. Today, I want to contextualize what we have been looking at.

Matt. 6:28 “And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin,

Matt. 6:29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.

Matt. 6:30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?” NRSV

God often uses comparisons to make his points clear to us, using references that would make sense to the hearer of his word. In verse 33, in the latter clause, Jesus states, “And all these things will be given to you as well.” NRSV

When investigating the Kingdom of God, it is wondrous to see not only that God will perform a task but also how he will achieve it. This text invites us to examine his prior work in nature: the lilies. In the King James Version, it is rendered as “the flower”; in the New Revised Standard Version, it appears as “lilies.” Jesus says, “Consider the lilies of the field.” Lilies are beautiful, and all flowers, for that matter, are too! Whether in California, England, or Morocco, flowers and lilies are simply gorgeous. They come in various colors, and none ever fade. When you touch them, the petals feel soft against your skin. They are masterpieces of God’s creation. But let’s reflect on them. I have never encountered a rose with substandard petals. Never have I seen a rose that was anything less than exquisite. In fact, Jesus draws a comparison: King Solomon, the wisest king, made so by God, and one of the wealthiest kings in Scripture, also because God made him so, was known for the beauty of all his possessions, yet he did not compare to these lilies. It is said that the Queen of Sheba lost her breath when she beheld King Solomon’s court (1 Kings 10:4,5).

This is how excellent King Solomon was. He impressed even other monarchs by the way his court was appointed. Not only his clothes but the robes of his servants blew Queen Sheba away. Yet Jesus said, Solomon, in all his glory, could not hold a candle to the lilies of the field. Then he makes the point, if God can do this for the grass of the field, “which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you?” It is not just about clothing you, but when he does it, you should expect God to do it in such a manner as to give you the best. This is how the Kingdom of God works. You should look for God’s best when he provides. You should not get used to meager fare. You are God’s child. You are a citizen of the Kingdom. Live that way.

The Message Bible renders verse 30 like this: Matt. 6:30 “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?”

You are important to God. God takes pride in you. Live that way.

  • Implementing the Kingdom of God

Today is day number three. You are doing amazingly. This is already a victory. Remember, you are attracting God’s attention. Make a point of praying throughout the day. Have your prayer list and be focused on what you need from God. Today, let’s go back to our primary scripture.

Matthew 6:33: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

We understand that we should seek the Kingdom of God first; we understand what it means to seek, but how do I apply this to my day-to-day living? Here are a few thoughts.

Start your day with God. Take time to start your day with prayer. Make it a priority so that you are not disturbed by routine. What I mean is this: Get up an extra 30 minutes early to talk with God. I know I tend to want to wake up and get right to my day. That’s OK, but take the time to spend with God. Pray, and make that a necessary part of your morning.

Meditate on God’s word. Even take the time to memorize scripture. This will help you envelop your mindset in the things of God. Practice taking time to think on His word, meditate, and consider how scripture can be the basis for how you think, feel, and engage your community.

Play and listen to Christian content. Listen to a sermon, podcast, or devotional throughout your day.

Try journaling. Set aside time to write down your ideas, thoughts, and reflections as you go through this year. Your faith journey is worth writing down. You could even turn this into a blog which can encourage someone else.

Practice righteousness throughout your day. Before you make a move, find out how God would want you to behave, create, and deal with the issue before you decide what to do.

Try these few things to practice seeking and functioning as citizens of the Kingdom of God. I am looking forward to your testimony. Try one of these things and make it a habit. It is said that you are making a habit when you do something consistently for 21 days in a row. Then, add another item that will help you keep your mindset on the Kingdom of God.

Remember, Drink all the water you can, and eat one bowl of soup after three (3) PM. Make out your prayer list for the year 2025. Join us this week, Monday through Friday, for prayer at six (6) AM. Here is the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/797700935

  • Give me Barabbas

    Give me Barabbas

Beloved, grace and Peace be multiplied to you, through the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ, our LORD. Today, on Monday, our new weekly fast day, Evangelist Sandra Huff has written an encouraging word and I am privileged to share it with you today. Thank you, Sandra Huff for the offering.

Luke 23:18 “And they cried out all at once saying away with this man and release onto us Barabbas.”

    Accept Responsibility

At the Time Jesus was being offered up to be crucified, Pontius Pilate was a bit concerned. He knew that Jesus was innocent, and he sensed that there was something special about him. However, Pontius Pilate had already taken an oath that he would crucify a criminal today. Rather than accept the responsibility himself, Pilate puts the question to the people. He decides he would spare someone today. He asked the people should I spare Jesus or spare Barabbas, a known thief throughout the community. The people chanted with great enthusiasm, “Give us Barabbas.”

    Familiarity

When you look at the situation, you realize that the people would prefer to have a thief among them rather than a savior. Why would they desire to have a known thief instead of Jesus, who was healing the sick, raising the dead, and giving words of wisdom directly from the father? The answer is they were comfortable with Barabbas.

They were familiar with the sinful life and the wicked deeds that he did. Jesus made them uncomfortable with their sin. He made them feel that they needed to make changes.

    Fear of Change

Sometimes God offers us a better way, a better solution, a higher level of thinking, a higher level of existence. Still, we may choose rather than take what God has for us or keep what is comfortable and familiar. This is why some people hang onto the past, remain in volatile relationships, and continue with habits that are causing the destruction. The same people will reject the good people that God puts in their lives. They leave the great opportunities the new chances that God gives them because they are too afraid to let go of what they are used to.

    Let Go

Examine yourself today. What are the Barabbas is in your life? What people and habits are you afraid to let go of? Although you know it’s not good for you and that there is something better offered to you, why do you continue to hold onto that which is causing your demise? Accept Jesus today, experience the better way, the answer, a new fresh way of thinking in Christ Jesus’s eternal life promise.

My prayer for you is that you receive Christ into your life and find the courage to let go of people and things that take you away from God’s desire for your life.

    Yours in Christ,

    Sandra Huff

  • Do Not Weaken Your Faith

    Do Not Weaken Your Faith

Grace and Peace be multiplied to you, through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus, our LORD. I pray this missive finds you well.

Allow me to say, I have been over whelm with school work and as a result, I have been unable to post, but I am will do my level best to keep to my regular schedule. I love our interactions and they are important to me. Please subscribe to this blog and share it. I believe it will bless you. Today’s word:

Rom. 4:19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was already as good as dead (for he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. NRSV

Faith is not and has never been easy. When you deal with God is not unusual to find yourself dealing with the fear that you either heard God wrong or that God may let you down. We know that God can and will tell us no, but what do you do when God has given you a word or scripture that causes you to wait on God’s promise.

This is how we Abraham in this text. Paul is teaching us how faith works, causes us to examine and reexamine Abraham’s faith. God had promised to make him the “father of many nations.” The tension is that Abraham was one hundred years old and had no child. Especially daunting was that he had no child through Sarai, whom God had promised he would have a child.

What do you do when your promise does not match actuality? How do I synthesize the problem of my inability and God’s promise? Sometimes our issue is God made me a promise that was absolutely plausible when we were young, but now it’s too late.

This was the case for Abraham. He was indeed a bit old for believing his body could respond to God’s promise, but here is what the Bible says. “He did not weaken in faith when he considered his body.” Can you avoid weakening your faith when your present circumstance does not match your expected word? You may have received this word when it seemed plausible, but sometimes God makes us wait till it is impossible for us, then he does what no one else could do.

Beloved, don’t weaken your faith because of what the world calls proof of our inability, or even what we may call our failure. God’s word is more powerful than our now. What you see now is not the possibility of God’s word. We see obstacles, facts, truth, and they all add up to impossibility. None of these things limit God. The reality is you did just get fired, but God does not need your job to keep his promise. He does not need your approval to come through. Here is a word from the Prophet Isaiah to you.

Is. 14:24 ¶ The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: KJV

  • Put on the whole armor of God

Put on the whole armor of God

Grace and Peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ. I pray that your week has gone well. This week I would like to encourage you from the book of Ephesians again. In the sixth chapter, he begins to close the letter by pressing this group of outlaws to stand their ground. Allow me to contextualize that statement. We understand that the Christian testament was written to Christian believers while Christianity as a faith was illegal. This growing church was unlawful. The exciting thing is he was encouraging the church to stand. As an illegal church, they were absolutely going to face challenges. They were going to face a society that will devise schemes and plans to secure their ruin, and in this, God has sent the Apostle Paul to encourage you. Let’s look at the text:

Eph. 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. NRSV

Your armor is essential. Your armor says and speaks volumes about you and what you are expecting. A simple correlation: a football player wears a particular armor. The football player wears the armor that announces what his/her intentions are. Let’s examine it.

When I wear football armor and uniform, my intention is being broadcasted. I understand that, first of all, I don’t put on this armor to sit in the bleachers and watch the game. If I were to walk into the bleachers to watch the game and not play, why would I need to put on armor? I put on armor to get on the field. If I put on armor, I intend to get on the field. I know that I am going on to the field, which means that there are people who have plans to hit me. They plan to tackle me. They plan to knock me down. This is why I have on the armor. The armor is not put on, so I can determine I will not be hit. It does not mean I should try to be hit because even with the armor, it is possible to I can be hurt.

As a Christian, I plan to get on this field called life. I did not put this armor on to stay off the field. Being a Christian means some people have designs to hit me and cause me harm. With this armor, I will continue to move forward. Continue to fight, continue to stand, and I stand ready to fight.

You are well equipped to achieve your purpose. You are well able to succeed. Before you go on to the field, put on the full armor of God.

I pray this blog was an encouragement to you. Plan now to bring someone to church with you this week, even virtually. This is part of what we are called to do. This, too, is wisdom. If you are not a member of a church, you need a place to run to as if every step matters. • Don’t live like fools. Eph 5:15

Don’t live like fools. Eph 5:15

Grace and peace be multiplied to you, through the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ, our LORD. We are blessed to see 2021, and we have completed our fast for the beginning of the year. Now what? I would say it is appropriate to celebrate now what God is going to do. Shout now, for the victory is yours. Beloved, Our God is awesome, and we need to stay focused on what God says is right.
Allow me to draw your attention, once again, to some of the texts in Ephesians that I intend to focus on in the coming year. Ephesians 5:15 is rendered this way in the New Living Translation:

Eph. 5:15 ¶ So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.

Don’t live like fools. This is an explicit biblical prohibition. This would mean we need to know what a fool is. Well, here is one chapter in the bible about fools. (New Living Translation)

Prov. 26:1 ¶ Honor is no more associated with fools
than snow with summer or rain with harvest.

Prov. 26:2 ¶ Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow,
an undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim.

    Prov. 26:3 ¶ Guide a horse with a whip, a donkey with a bridle,
and a fool with a rod to his back!

Prov. 26:4 ¶ Don’t answer the foolish arguments of fools,
or you will become as foolish as they are.

Prov. 26:5 ¶ Be sure to answer the foolish arguments of fools,
or they will become wise in their own estimation.

Prov. 26:6 ¶ Trusting a fool to convey a message
is like cutting off one’s feet or drinking poison!

Prov. 26:7 ¶ A proverb in the mouth of a fool
is as useless as a paralyzed leg.

    Prov. 26:8 ¶ Honoring a fool
