Your Purpose.: “Beloved, Grace and Peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus Christ our LORD. Allow me to apologize to you for the gap in our weekly devotional, I will do my level best not to allow that to happen again.
Today I want to encourage you about your purpose, and take a look at how Jesus went about doing the will of the Father. This is increasingly important today because we live in a time when many non-Christians are yelling at the top of their voices that we should be tolerant, but if we have the occasion to state our positions as believers we are admonished to keep our faith a personal issue between us, and God. Certainly, that’s intolerant in my book. Hear is what Jesus has to say about who we are and our purpose.
John 15:5 ¶ ‘Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:6 Anyone who parts from me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned.
NLT Version.
We beloved are branches. The purpose of a branch is to bear fruit, or in the NLT version, to produce fruit. The fruit is define thusly: 1 the sweet and fleshy product of a tree or other plant that contains seed and can be eaten as food. A further definition of fruit, is that the seed it contains can and does produce fruit after it’s own kind. So the apple is a fruit, and has in it seed that can and does when planted, produce an apple trees. One seed produces one tree, that in turn yields a multiplicity of friut. So Jesus is really telling us to reproduce what is in you. The only way to effectively do this is to be a witness. Being a witness, according to the scripture takes power. Jesus says it this way:Acts 1:8 But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’
Here, the word ‘power’ in the greek is the word, du/namiß; dunamis, this is where we get the word dynamite. The word means raw force. Jesus is telling us we need raw force, power to tell people about him. Why? Jesus says it this way: John 3:19 Their judgment is based on this fact: The light from heaven came into the world, but they loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.
It is preferable for man today to do everything contrary to the will of God. Why? The Apostle Paul tells us in the book of Romans: Rom. 8:7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. The light you offer is an offense to them, and they will reject it. I still want to encourage you. The light you offer is more powerful than their need to be in the dark. God has given you the raw force to deal with their objection, but you can not use this power by remaining quiet. You must speak, you must confront, you must take a stand, you must be a witness. How did Jesus do it? He went about preaching and teaching about the Kingdom. Make the Kingdom of God the focus. You derive benefits because you are in the Kingdom of God. Life has it’s challenge, but the reason you are not crazy, is because you are a citizen of the Kingdom of God. The reason you have not given up, although you have good reason is because you are a citizen of the Kingdom of God, and he takes care of you. Tell people about the Kingdom, tell them about Jesus. Invite someone to church with you.
Yours Because I’m His
